4 Elements of Sustainable Adaption
There are 4 core elements that can be applied to a moment of change in ones life.
Not every change program or individual requires attention to all these elements, so you can utilise what works, is required and apply them to the type and magnitude of your change efforts.
Each strategy will comprise of content, people, and process.
1. Adaption V’s Values and Guiding Principles:
SUSTAINABLE ADAPTIONS are all about taking a good idea, a personal choice, a desire, a required or necessary change and/or new direction and making it REAL.
Making the direction a reality through process, acceptance and commitment.
Your values, choices and guiding principles drive the design of your new direction and ultimately will determine your success.
You are in control! You are the driving force!
Your adaption process must be a reflection of your future and embody the values and principles of the new lifestyle you are creating, otherwise, you or the people around you will not believe the adaption is real.
We must make it a genuine real desire and then implement a process.
In other words, you must model the “future you” in ways that support, lead and encourage you to adapt to new “efforts” on a daily basis.
Do what you say. Take the small steps and be consistent.
It all starts with the Now! Make your desire for change REAL! Learn how to ADAPT!
2. Create a healthy environment.
The first step in fostering a healthy environment is by encouraging direct family, work colleagues and friends to be role models and to make them aware of your goals.
Don’t let others bring you down.
Discuss your goals and make the request of change to events, habits, circumstances and other aspects of your life that inhibit your success. You must “walk the talk” and so must the people and the environment around you.
Remove the bad apples.
Get yourself a coach who can be your support mechanism and the person who you know is 100% behind your goals. This person is your fitness, lifestyle and health teammate and they share your journey.
I recommend a coach like myself and look to enrol in programs that support your growth towards new stages and changes in your life. It can be a collaborative process with supported guidance towards lifestyle independence. A good coach will educate you through the process of change and support you on a personal level.
3. Make needed process changes.
How does your current lifestyle and environment currently promote your 3 fitness domains – physical activity, healthy eating and emotional well-being?
Identify challenges you face, and imagine what it might look like if you were successfully implementing everything you could to promote fitness and a better healthy lifestyle.
- What tools or systems do you need to implement to support your efforts?
- What can you change immediately?
- What can you adjust in time?
- How will you execute it?
Understand the process and you will start to understand success.
4. Track results, set milestones and affirm your success with your support base.
The first objective is to assess your current levels of activity, healthy eating and emotional well-being and your readiness to change.
Study results indicate that addressing each domain separately is more manageable and less overwhelming. Make small changes and don’t quit the path.
Set small and reasonable goals. To address the first domain of fitness, physical activity, goals do not need to involve developing an athletic, muscular body or a model’s figure as seen in magazines.
Lets get real. Measure your improvements one step at a time
