What you need to know:
1. Self-Worth as a priority
Self Worth is about who you are not what you do. The dictionary defines self-worth as “the sense of one’s own value or worth as a person.” This means you must make yourself a priority, understand that you are important and ensure that your daily routine takes into account time and focus on key components of your health, fitness and self-development. This focus on yourself must be daily and can be a predetermined amount of time. We all lead busy lives however I can tell you some people look after themselves better than others. This is just a focus and a mindset attribute. The family, children and work are not an excuse to neglect or ignore what is important and especially when it comes to your own personal physical and emotional wellbeing. You are never any good to anyone else if you abuse yourself or decide to put off your own health, dreams and ambitions. Life is about living to an optimal level and it is NEVER selfish to ensure you are at your best. Those around you will appreciate you being the best version of yourself.
All you have to do is focus on YOU!
Stop measuring oneself against others. There is only one version of you and you are unique with amazing qualities and attributes. When you acknowledge what you are good at in life and what you are truly passionate about this will in itself negate the need to measure yourself against others. Let people live their own lives and be sure to live your own to the level you truly desire. All it takes is some self worth, passion and focus.
Pay attention to your intrinsic value. “Our competitive culture tells us we need to be special and above average to feel good about ourselves, but we can’t all be above average at the same time.” This means that we need to accept that someone is always going to be doing things better than we are at some point in time. We can’t all be superheroes everyday and we can’t win every race. What we need to focus on is our own value, our consistency and be sure to be the best we can based on an underlying respect for our intrinsic value. Be you and do it well.
Challenge your critical inner voice. We all have a critical inner voice, which acts like a cruel coach inside our heads. It tells us we are worthless and underserving of happiness. That little voice in your head telling you to stop, quit and that you are not good enough is an illusion. It is designed to be there to entice an evolutionary reaction so you strive for better. Simple as that. It is up to you to make a choice at this point and decide what you are going to do next and your reaction to the circumstances is what defines you as a person and your outcome.
This voice, this coach, is shaped from painful childhood experiences and critical attitudes we were exposed to early in life. While these attitudes can be hurtful, over time, they have been ingrained in us. As adults, we may fail to see them as an enemy, instead accepting their destructive point of view as our own.
Its simply not true and does not define our potential. Be mindful of your inner voice and remember it is simply demanding a response from you. This response is in your control.
Remember imperfection is part of the human experience and something we all share. Not sure about you but I am definitely not perfect. I do however strive for excellence and this is what allows me to progress with confidence as I know that this is all I can control. We all have imperfections and we all make mistakes. That is our personal learning curve and as we grow and progress we take these lessons with us to ensure we are stringer and wiser the next time we encounter a challenge or circumstance. Focus on your achievements and your ability to reach milestones.
Learn to FLY – First Love Yourself. This is a combination of all the things about and ultimately placing ultimate worth on yourself. Love yourself for everything you are and be grateful for your existence. Your contribution to those around you will always make an impact and you can choose what this impact will be. Love yourself enough to prioritise yourself over the stress, worry and commitment that our society presents. Don’t work with the system however look to create your own timeline, reality and path based around your personal value.
2. Self-Development as a value
Personal development is a life long process. Self-development should be seen as an opportunity. A moment not to be missed as everyday we have the ability to learn something and progress our lives forward. Physically, emotionally and mentally. All it takes is a dedication to self.
Look to install self development as a personal value. When we install and live by our values, our lives become more deliberate and reflect more of who we really are as people. It is easy to let your values slip by and have life pass you by as you forget what you stand for and allow circumstances dictate the result. I suggest looking to install self development as a key value in life. When you do this it becomes the forefront of your focus and helps making decisions that benefit your growth easier to make.
My top 10 personal values are Self-Development, Passion, Commitment, Consistency, Integrity, Imagination, Making A Difference, Gratitude, Resilience & Creativity.
Focus on aims, ambitions and goals in life. Life is an adventure and if you want to develop as a person you need to experience things to obtain the necessary lessons and information. So the premise here is to do things. The doing enables you to progress. Setting targets and goals will allow you to establish direction and a sense of control. The key to succeeding with any goal is to ensure you understand the process involved to succeed. What do you have to do to get there?
Realise and maximize your potential through learning. There is something really liberating about learning new things. Those “ah ha” moments that make us feel a little silly when we realise we did not know as much as we thought we did. If you want to excel at something then you need to do the work and this includes the background research, work and learning. The more you know about a subject or a skill the more likely you will be able to apply it to your life and find progressive improvement and application.
Commit to yourself on a daily basis. Remember your self worth? Your daily routine must contain elements of self development and at any degree. Every day you take a step forward or make time to apply some learning and practice in a field of choice or towards your own physical health is one day closer to becoming the person you really want to be.
Get involved in activities that you feel are important. I feel that when we engage with people or events that we are passionate about or they align with our belief systems we have an opportunity to freely express ourselves. Allocating time to things you enjoy doing and that you are interested in simply makes sense. Do more of that. Find issues that are important to you and get actively involved. Make a difference.
Help others which boosts self-worth. Nothing better than supporting or guiding someone else especially at times when it matters most. It not only liberates them but it liberates and empowers yourself.
Giving is good for you. Give more than you take. If find that giving can be a very simple way to enforce a greater self value as it is an action of integrity and respect. The act of giving says a lot about who you are.
Invest energy in transcendent goals and activities that extend beyond one’s self interest. The world does not revolve around you and when you genuinely focus on the interests of others and utilise the feelings of selflessness your world can become a very power full place.
Let life live through you. We all have distractions in life. Work, family and commitments. We must find ways of living. Living life in a way that supports our sanity and our passions. Focus on this and find ways to live your life and let the energy of what you love to do flow.
Fall in love with the journey. This is one of the most important tips I can give anyone. When you allow the journey to become a part of who you are and you truly love the progression and the aspects involved life becomes enriched. If you are learning something everyday you are evolving. Fall in love with that feeling. Empowerment is the evolution of who you are via awareness.
Read more books. By the time I was 12 I had read over 2000 books as my mother was a book worm and I was infected. Everything from Asimov to Orwell. My bedroom had three walls of books and one toy box. It was the best. I loved reading. So here is my simple message, read more books. Other people have so much to share and their stories are valuable. I am always learning from others. It takes a deliberate action to read a book however you only have to start with one page at a time. Try it.
Enrol in courses and be prepared to learn. Book it in! That is what I do. As much as I can. Booking into courses and taking steps towards your growth is a deliberate action. Learn things that will help you progress. What do you need to know to help you take the next step forward in life? Go and learn about that!
Surround yourself with greater people than yourself. You will always become the average of those around you so make sure to surround yourself with greatness. This can come in various ways. Online communities, your direct environment, your team mates and the books and literature you read. It all contributes to your development.
3. Understanding Process V’s Outcome
Outcome goals are the finish line. The outcome is not where we start. We start with the initial desire, the acceptance of change, the allowance of change to flow over us and then it comes down to the process. PROCESS is king! What are the steps required to succeed? Find them and follow an understood path.
Process is the road map and the small steps it will take to achieve the goal. When we have established the road map to success it becomes liberating to know where you are heading. You can see the end. You can see what it will take to get there regardless of how hard or challenging it may be. Create the process and the outcome becomes real.
Focus on process and you will start to fully understand success. Simple sentence. Read it again.
4. Passion & Purpose
What are you 100% passionate about? Follow your heart. Heard that before? Well it is true. Do what you want to do. If you don’t know how, learn. All it takes is a dedicated focus and desire. You will find a way if you really want to.
Can you earn a living from it? If your passion allows you to also pay your bills then you have a great scenario. If you are unsure, find out and work out a way so it can. I can emphasise enough the importance of chasing down opportunities in fields you enjoy. You were born to make an impact, not work just to pay the bills.
Does your passion give you life purpose, make you feel alive, and excite you? Ask yourself this question and see how it makes you feel. If your chosen dream makes you excited and it will make you happy then chase it. Those moments in life where you hair stands on end are the moments we cherish. Create them.
5. Energy & Thoughts
The success is in the knowing. There is something special about confidence. A level of confidence that due to your preparation, your research and your application to what you do…you just know you are going to do well. Victory loves preparation and when you apply your energy into these areas you are very likely to do well.
Attract what you think about most. Thoughts become things. It is law. You will attract what you send out so be sure to ensure your energy is aligned with your process and your desired outcome.
What do you want more of? What ever this is, visualise it, think it, live it. Do what you know is best for you.
Be the best version of yourself. This is very important. We must learn how to turn it on when we need to. Learn to be the best version of yourself via conscious thought. It takes practice and when we have had a rough day that is when we need to find this energy the most. Fake it till you make it, put on your best show, step up and make a difference even when you feel in the dumps.
